India & Russia to explore connectivity between Chennai & Vladivostok


India’s Ministry of Shipping and Russia’s Ministry of Transport have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to open a maritime route between the ports of Chennai and Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East, informed a release.  


“Opening of this route between Chennai and Vladivostok assumes significance because it ensures there will be connectivity between the two major ports, which will give impetus to the cooperation between India and the Russian Far East,” Indian Foreign Secretary, Mr Vijay Gokhale, told newspersons. He said India is looking not just at the energy sector in Russia but also at the resources, forestry and agriculture sectors.


In talks with President,  Mr Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, discussed ways to bolster cooperation in trade and investment, oil and gas, nuclear energy, defence, space and maritime connectivity, the release said.
