Export of seafood in FY 17-18 sees 21.35 pc growth

 

Registering a growth of 21.35 per cent, India shipped 13,77,244 tonnes of seafood and earned $ 7.08 billion during the last financial year (2017-18) as compared to 11,34,948 tonnes valued at $ 5.77 billion in the previous fiscal.

 

Frozen shrimp and frozen fish continued to be the flagship export items, the Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA) said in a release.

 

In rupee terms, the export of marine products roped in Rs 45,106.89 crore as against Rs 37,870.90 crore in 2016-17, notching a growth of 19.11 per cent, it is understood.

 

The US and South-East Asia retained their positions as the major import markets of India’s seafood products with a share of 32.76 per cent and 31.59 per cent in dollar terms, respectively, reports said.
