J. M. Baxi & IBM ink MoU to launch Blockchain-based platform for India’s ex-im trade


J. M. Baxi Group, a leading logistics conglomerate, and IBM have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) towards a digital push to help the company expand in newer areas of business, transform internal processes and jointly develop technology-led solutions and offerings leveraging the IBM Blockchain. The MoU was inked in Mumbai by Mr Dhruv K. Kotak, Joint Managing Director, J. M. Baxi Group and Mr Dee K. Waddell, Global Managing Director, Travel & Transportation Industries, IBM Corporation.


Among the others present on the occasion were Mr Vijay Anand, VP - Travel, Transportation & Hospitality - Asia Pacific, G. China, Japan, IBM Corporation; Mr Kanishka Agiwal, Industry Leader - Travel and Transportation for India & South Asia, IBM Corporation; and Mr Prasad Patil, Chief Technology Officer, J. M. Baxi Group.


Under the MoU, the two companies will collaborate on multiple projects by bringing the joint expertise in domain knowledge, techno-functional expertise and technology expertise to solve business problems affecting the ex-im trade and logistics industry, informed a communiqué. The aim is to facilitate ease of doing business.


The MoU will see both companies jointly set up a Technology and Innovation Council to leverage the best of IBM technology expertise and J. M. Baxi Group’s industry expertise in order to incubate new ideas to jointly build the next generation of client solutions. The immediate goals of the Technology and Innovation Council will be to take up feasibility studies and projects on blockchain, enterprise data architecture and Artificial Intelligence (AI) using IBM Watson services, informed a communiqué.


In 2017, J. M. Baxi had introduced ‘Portall’, a logistics management application that facilitated customers having complete transparency of the entire export/import processes with real-time updates, status tracking, alerts, and notifications by providing a single interface. A dashboard allows users to check respective shipment status and to plan further activities. A payment gateway assists users to make online payments with options like net banking, UPI, credit card, etc.


Mumbai-based J. M. Baxi Group is involved in the entire gamut of cargo and logistics services, among them being port terminals, inland container depots, container freight stations, container train operations, Customs broking and marine services, ship operations, etc.
