DP World Chennai hosts deep-draught vessel at Chennai Port

The DP World-operated Chennai Container Terminal has achieved a new landmark by hosting the deep-draught vessel that docked at Chennai Port. Having a draught of 14.6 metres, the terminal successfully berthed the M. V. CMA CGM Bellini on January 7, 2016.

DP World Chennai, together with Chennai Port Trust, has undertaken an exercise to deepen the draught of the terminal and provide solutions to customers looking at upsizing their vessels. Commenced in a phased manner, the terminal has now increased its draught to accommodate vessels of 15 metres.

Said Mr K. K. Krishnadas, CEO of DP World Chennai: "As the industry is witnessing a growth in larger vessels, there is a need for us to upgrade our infrastructure too. We are working together with the Port authorities in order to be aligned with the expansion plans of various shipping lines. This trend is expected to continue in the wake of global consolidation and alliance realignment in the industry."
